We love the idea so we sat down with one of the co-founders, Candice, to chat about all things natural and eco-friendly, so go on, read our interview with Candice Kincaid from The Clean Crate Company!
1) What inspires you to start The Clean Crate Company?
Since becoming a mother my commitment to using non-toxic products has become foundational for all of my purchase decisions. However, when we moved to a small suburban city, I became frustrated with the lack of selection of quality non-toxic household products available at the local big-box retailers. And with no local natural foods store, options were limited to big brand products – and many of which I would buy and be disappointed with how ineffective they were! Not to mention a glaring lack of independent Canadian brands and products or products that were truly eco-friendly. I have always loved trying new brands and products and I have spent many years as a sales rep for natural products. I knew there was an incredible selection of Canadian brands out there but they weren’t easy to find. Enter the Clean Crate. Our goal is to make it easy and fun to try a variety of Candian eco products that have been carefully curated by our team to ensure they are effective and meet our high-quality standards.
2) What does a day at work look like for you?
Busy! As a mom of two kids under 5, I need to be laser-focused during my working hours. I am involved in all aspects of the business from sourcing and testing products, to digital marketing and social media engagement to product packing and shipping boxes. I check every one of them before it goes out! I want to be closely involved in all parts of the business so that our customers get the best experience from The Clean Crate Company and so that I can continue to see how we can service both our customers and our vendor partners to the best of our ability.
3) With the COVID 19 pandemic, what has changed in terms of your approach to customers and the general public who are interested in adopting an eco-lifestyle?
Due to the pandemeic, the significance of proper cleaning has never been more important! Understanding that are eco-friendly alternatives that are equally as effective as toxic chemicals is so critical at this time. Harsh chemicals can kill germs but they can also take a toll on our immune systems, airways and can cause a myriad of allergic reactions. Not to mention the devasting effects these toxins have on our environment. Helping Candian families keep their homes healthy and the planet happy is our goal.
4) What is your favourite product from Green Cricket and how do you incorporate it into your daily routine?
I have 2! The foaming hand soap because it’s gentle, effective and refillable! And the coconut body lotion – I use it daily after I shower and keep a small one in my purse at all times. I love the smell and how moisturizing it is without being greasy!
5) How has adopted a more sustainable lifestyle changed your daily life?
My overall mental and physical health has greatly improved! I no longer get headaches or irritated like l used to from artificial fragrances. I feel better about my choices and more intentional in the way I live. I don’t have to worry about my kids accidentally getting into the products under my sink, or licking the mirror after I’ve just cleaned it (yes that happens!) As a family, our goal is to continuously work towards being gentler on the planet and take the best care of our health as a preventative health measure. I believe it is all of our responsibilities to ensure that we are taking the right steps towards a brighter future for our children and the generations to come.
